Los Chaparros

Last night I went to a charming gem of of a Mexican restaurant on Beretanina by Mcully called Los Chaparros. Friday night meant 1.50$ off all Tequila drinks which equaled Patron for me and my cohorts. The tequila was served elegantly in a tiny chalice with a wedge of heavily salted lime. Between the fine reposado and the colorful and authentic Mexican surroundings, I was ready to try the salsa. This was not a disappointment. The traditional Mexican dip tasted of fresh tomatoes and spice, had Gazpacho-like consistency and was served with premium tortilla.

The service was prompt, polite, informal, and all smiles adding to the fun. Perhaps due the fine agave spirits one in my party left his cell on the table. As we were leaving the waitress bulleted out the building to catch us right before we went out into the Honolulu night. Now that's service.

The real test of Mexican, is of course, the burritos, enchiladas, and quesadilla of which I had all three. The combination plate cost just over 16$ and gives you a choice of three appetizing entrees plus rice and beans. I choose the veggie enchillada, the chicken burrito, and carnitas quessadilla. hey were all pretty good for a Mexican way out in the middle of the Pacific. The carnitas was probably the winner of the table.

All and all, Los Chaparros is a fun place, with friendly service, good food, and for the right place. I drove by this plenty of times on the busy Beretania St. I should've went there much sooner.I will be back.
